Type Locality and Naming

Along the Pyazyn ridge, central part of the Zirabulak-Ziaetdin mountains. V.S. Korsakov et al. in 1960 (1962) (166, p. 120; 460, p. 87). Stratotype on Mount Piya, upper reaches of Tymsay.

Synonym: Pyazyn Suite, Пьязынская св., Pyazin Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Dolomites, dolomitic limestones with interlayers and lenses of limestones. Thickness 650-700m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies with a gradual transition on the Terikbabin Fm

Upper contact

The upper contact is conformable with the Dzhalkyr-Aymakhal Fm.

Regional extent

Zirabulak-Ziaetdin Mountains, Mahmudtau Mountains, eastern continuation of g, Boir; rural district of Altyaul, south of the Ayrabel Mountains.

Fossils

Contains late Silurian tabulates - Favosites stepanovi Kov., F. cf. forbesi M.Edw. et Haim., Parastriatopora ex gr. tebenjkovi Tchern. and others; stromatoporoids - Amphipora cf. antiqua Grin. and others (Korsakov et al., 1962; Barkovskaya et al., 1965, 1967).


Age 

According to the data of V.S. Korsakov, the Ludlow-Pridoli age is established by organic remains and conformable overlap by faunally characterized Lower Devonian deposits. V.S. Korsakov et al. (1993), (166) and in the monograph (165) date the sv. as late Silurian; Str. sl. (443)
